State the task first
Begin with a direct action such as summarize, compare, rewrite, classify or generate. This gives the request a clear objective.
Add useful context
Explain who the output is for, what the source material is and what matters most. Relevant context reduces guesswork. Avoid adding unrelated information that makes the goal harder to identify.
Specify constraints
Include length, tone, language, format, exclusions or other requirements when they matter. For example, ask for a table when you need structured comparison rather than hoping the model chooses one.
Show an example
When the desired style or structure is unusual, provide a small example. An example can communicate formatting expectations more precisely than several paragraphs of description.
Iterate
Start with a workable prompt, inspect the output and then tighten the instruction. Treat the first result as feedback about which part of your request needs clarification.
